Privacy Policy

Effective October 31, 2026

The short version: Chat Porter works entirely on your device. Conversation text, code, and attachments are processed locally only to produce your export. Chat Porter does not transmit, sell, or share that content, your browsing history, or your personal information. The only optional data you can choose to send is a response to the uninstall feedback form described below.

What the extension accesses

When you open Chat Porter while viewing a supported AI chat, it reads the visible conversation so it can build a preview and create an export. This happens only after you open the side panel or the review window. Supported sites are:

chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com
claude.ai
gemini.google.com
chat.deepseek.com
grok.com and x.com/i/grok

Chat Porter does not read pages on any other site.

How data is processed

Conversation content is parsed in memory in your browser. It is never sent over the network.
When you choose Review & export, a one-time snapshot is written to chrome.storage.session so the review window can display it. Session storage is memory-backed and cleared when the browser session ends.
Preferences (auto-load history, compact context, attachments, images, last format) are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device. They contain no conversation content.
Generated files are created locally as browser Blobs and saved through Chrome’s downloads API. Chat Porter does not upload them anywhere.
Attachments are included in exports as links to the original files. Chat Porter does not fetch or copy their binary contents.

Limited Use

Chat Porter's use of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Conversation content is used only to provide the extension's export and context features. It is not sold, not transferred for advertising or unrelated purposes, not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending, and is not read by humans.

Data sharing

No data is sold, rented, transferred, or disclosed to third parties. There are no advertising networks, analytics providers, or subprocessors. The extension contains no remote code and makes no network requests for chat content.

Optional uninstall feedback

If you remove Chat Porter, Chrome may open an optional feedback form hosted by Google Forms. If you choose to submit it, the information you enter — a reason, optional site, optional comment, optional email address, and optional rating — is stored in a Google Sheets spreadsheet controlled by the developer and is processed under Google's privacy policy. The extension does not send anything automatically. Please do not include chat content, passwords, API keys, or other sensitive information. Submitting the form is entirely optional.

Permissions

sidePanel — the main interface.
activeTab / scripting — attach to the conversation tab you are viewing, including tabs that were already open before installation.
storage — keep preferences and hand the reviewed snapshot to the review window.
downloads — save the file you requested.
Host permissions — read the conversation on the supported AI sites only.

Retention and deletion

Conversation snapshots are ephemeral and are cleared when the browser session ends or when a new review snapshot is created. Preferences remain until you change them or remove the extension. Removing the extension deletes its local storage.

Children

Chat Porter is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published with the extension and the effective date will be revised.
